Making progress against Regeneron’s 2025 Responsibility Goals
By: Christina Chan, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Citizenship
I joined Regeneron in late 2021 to lead the Corporate Communications and Citizenship team, and I was surprised. With nearly two decades of experience in the industry, I knew Regeneron as a leading biotech company with deep scientific and technological expertise, an impressive product portfolio and an exciting R&D pipeline. Regeneron also stood out as a corporate responsibility leader making significant investments in fostering the next generation of scientific innovators. All of this proved to be true, yet what surprised me was that behind everything I knew about the Company was the team’s incredibly deep dedication to creating a sustainable and socially responsible company.
My new colleagues – numbering over 10,000 – have exceeded my already high expectations. They are hard-working, collaborative and passionate – about science, supporting patients, and always doing the right thing. With an eye towards creating novel solutions, they set a high bar across all aspects of the business and embed social responsibility in their decision-making as guided by our ‘Doing Well by Doing Good’ ethos.
Regeneron’s approach to corporate responsibility reflects this spirit, focusing on applying our unique skills and expertise to improve our world and build business resiliency. We are currently in year three of working towards our global 2025 responsibility goals, which span social and environmental issues. We’ve made significant progress across our three responsibility focus areas. Here are a few highlights:
Improve the Lives of People with Serious Diseases
- Advanced our clinical pipeline of 30+ investigational medicines
- Delivered nearly 3 million doses of our COVID-19 antibody cocktail to the U.S. government; the government provided the treatment to eligible patients in the U.S. free of charge1
- Sequenced around 2 million people through the Regeneron Genetics Center® (as of March 2022)
- Engaged with 146 global and U.S. patient advocacy and professional societies across 28 diseases
Foster a Culture of Integrity and Excellence
- Continued cultivating a talented, supportive team, with 9 out of 10 employees saying Regeneron is a great place to work
- Rolled out our new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy – Better Science, Better Workplace, Better World
- Launched our True North Program which focuses on empowering and equipping all colleagues to make ethical and risk-informed decisions
- Sustained our high product quality and safety standards, maintaining zero product recalls as a result
- Continued to adapt our procedures and protocols to safeguard employees’ health and safety while ensuring the important work taking place across our sites could continue
Build Sustainable Communities
- Provided STEM experiences to 1.2 million students since 2020, when we first announced our goals
- Dedicated over 12,000 volunteer hours to our local communities during our fifth annual Day for Doing Good
- Worked towards our environmental targets spanning energy, greenhouse gas emissions, waste and water, including investing in renewable energy sources such as solar power and hydropower
As we progress toward these goals, we continue to refine what it means to be a responsible biotech company. For example, in 2021, we deepened our commitment to environmental sustainability as one of the first companies in our sector to issue a Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Report on our climate-related risks and opportunities. We also launched an ambitious biodiversity and conservation initiative at our Industrial Operations and Product Supply (IOPS) sites in Rensselaer, New York and Limerick, Ireland focused on restoring, preserving and enhancing suburban ecosystems on the 288 acres of Regeneron-owned land and adjacent properties.
I invite you to read more in Regeneron’s 2021 Responsibility Report, published today, which shares details on the many responsible practices taking place across our organization – and the ambitions we have for furthering our positive impact on our local communities and beyond.
I’m inspired by what we’ve achieved already as we approach the halfway point towards our 2025 goals. There’s still much work to be done and we’re excited by what’s ahead – and I hope we’ll surprise you, too, with everything that we accomplish.
